To start with the end...this is the Amsterdam Airport and it is a big one. We were told there was a shopping area....but it was a Mall....and huge shopping crowds. The Delta airlines area has, in essence, it's own boarding area that they call D1. As you go into the D1 area, and it is very well marked, you go through another check in procedure...where they check boarding pass, passports, and then a small security check point...and then you proceed to the actual gate area. Very well organized as long as you know up front that the D1 gate designation is not actually a gate that you board from, but an area that you pass through to get to the actual boarding gate. So, time to do this has to be considered when you are flying Delta back to the states.
